I'm sure some will go nuts, but its not like this prevent them from doing anything they are going to do.
Going to have to get to overpay some to get to the floor again, unless you sign some big FA that is probably too early for the rebuild schedule currently on. |

It’s a good move to keep Foligno. Solid decision by Chicago! |

Hes a good veteran mentor to have. Create the RIGHT culture inside and outside that locker-room. |

They should make Foligno captain now. I am sure that they don't give a crap about Toews otherwise they would have resigned him. Foligno is the guy until Bedard is ready. |

Despite him taking the year off of hockey and not being sure if he will ever return? And people were up in arms about them signing Perry... |

My problem with KFC is that he came out and said that they were not resigning Toews before the season ended and before Toews said he was taking the year off. Then he came up with the BS excuse of not having a captain in deference to Toews. On this he put the horse behind the cart. |

I get that. From KD's perspective, why would he want to bring Toews back? You'd have everyone deferring to a guy who was not able to stay in the lineup, and when he did get in the lineup, was clearly not able to perform.
I'm sure the FO had at least some idea that Toews was not going to be able to come back. |

Who gives a (frank) about not having a captain this year? It sorts itself out in the room anyway. |

That's my thought as well. They were pretty clear they just didn't want to hand out the "C" after having Toews as Captain for 15 seasons. Foligno or any of the guys who are leaders on the team don't "need" a letter on their jersey to be a leader. I don't think Foligno would be a different player or teammate if he has the "C" or not. There was no reason they need to rush to name a new Captain. |

Interesting tweet from big head hockey
Highest goals/game as a 16yo on the u18 US NTDP in the last decade:
1.30 — Cole Eiserman
0.75 — Jack Hughes
0.56 — Clayton Keller
0.53 — Cole Caufield
0.50 — Will Smith
0.50 — Oliver Whalstrom
Is the knock on Eiserman that he is a 1 trick pony?
I still think I'd rather take him over Lindstrom |

From what I've read, the knocks on Eiserman are that he can be a bit selfish with the puck and a bit lost/unengaged if he doesn't have it. it obviously hasn't slowed him down too much, but that's about all I've heard/read.

Awesome news- now need to make nick the C -although you know I doubt nick is the type of guy that needs that - in that - you can tell that he's a guy, not unlike Hossa in that sense - that he knows what he is to the team ... and he is not only -a- leader - but =the- leader on this team.
He impressed the hell out of me when he was C on the Jackets, and that entire Panarin circus was unfolding as Panarin was going to become a UFA there (and ultimately end up going over to Manhattan).
He's really effective at that - and in the words of Savvy (his best line ever as a coach) - you could tell there here is a guy who has 'committed to the Indian'.
----
And just watched Panger's segment with him (I hadn't before writing the above) -- wow - ok, yeh Nick put into words stuff that I never thought about -just felt - it is a lot about the history, and the road the team has traveled -since 1926. That's what it always has been for me, anyways - and I guess you all might end up being shocked (definitely mocking myself here) - but yeh I do actually have a history background - so hearing that meant a lot. I'd not be surprised that this ends up winding up being some coaching capacity with the team. Guys that are that way - that is who you build teams and culture around (not just as a player for he next 2 seasons). This has to be about more than this. |

I’ll be honest, I don’t know who the better player is. The scouting reports, Eiserman is an incredible goal scorer who’s shown the consistent ability to score. He’s got decent size but everything I’ve read suggests he’s a good but not great skater.
Lindholm is big and physical. He’s considered a great skater both in speed and agility. He hasn’t shown big numbers in the past but he’s putting up big numbers this season. There are questions if he thinks the game at a high level. |

I swear I’m not trying to start a fight, but isn’t that similar to the initial reports on K. Dach. |

Now I must go back to last blog instead of trying to type (every incident for me is JUST that..trying!) it all over.
I know Jared adds new blobs to thwart me!
The discussion was the newly released Central Scouting lists:
NHL Central Scouting mid term rankings for the 2024 draft
North America
1. Celebrini
2. Levshunov
3. Lindstrom
4. Buium
5. Connelly
6. Yakemchuk
7. Richardinson
8. Eiserman
International
1. Helenius
2. Silayev
3. Demidov
4. Jiricek
5. Hemming
Interesting that Eiserman has dropped that much. Also,no Catton? According to this list, the Blackhawks might be able to grab Catton with the Tampa pick, depending on where it ends up - captainserious
Glad that the list is out!
Just remember that the NHL scouting staff's rarely adhere to this list as gospel, and is a consensus of all the retired NHL players now scouting for them.
I will say this: EVERY NHL team needs at least ONE big defense-first defenseman with offensive in his game, and if that is what you think is your need London's LD Jason Richardinson IS the closest to ready to step in and do that for a team.
I am trying to look at this as a Hawk fan, and that we end up selecting 4-6....
I stand by my list over theirs:
https://www.lines.com/nhl/drafts
You will see speed and size always as their priority, and the fact that they some are farther away projects counts less in their top ten. (Go back and look at their previous years and see.)
I do want to comment on this and then go back to a day of re-watching the World Juniors to see what I missed:
I love Trevor Connelly because he is fast in everything he does. He is from Anaheim. I had him in my top ten since summer. But he is SO light!
Cole Eiserman is a gun at this point. He can skate with jump but there are things in his edge work and positioning but he is a bull out there; the shot is precise and will be difficult for NHL goalies.
Even though Canadien Cayden Lindstrom is second on my board, he is a hot and cold paced player, and I love the size but not sure he walks in the locker as a dominant piece when all is said and done. His skating is not overly fast or quick a lot of the time
Yakemchuk is a potentially strong candidate as an NHL defender because despite his great skating and ability to go to the opposition net, defensively, he relies on his feet and not much defensive acumen is in place.
In the past many junior defenders selected early fail, but usually because they don't have NHL feet. He does.
There is plenty is potential
I am not saying Zee Buim won't be somewhere between Ian MITCHELL and Cale MAKAR, but he is a not gonna leverage attackers - Korchinski has the size to handle that aspect eventually, he is that one offensive man (ala Drysdale) that a team CAN carry...
I have him at #14 based solely on that. I am not a gambler, but it would be a good bet if Vegas lest you bet he won't go top 8. Book it
Re: Levshunov
YOUR scouts BETTER be sure if you pick him a 2-4.
I am not being negative, but I want a forward, and I am not sure form what I see.
Helenius is still a head scratcher...he has smarts ability and is on my board at #9.
I am not sure he has proven he goes earlier.
Hemming had size a shot, some grit, but is less of a transporter or skater.

Different but a good comparison in that you are drawing upon projection on both.
Kirby was drafted not for being a dominant scorer but on of the smarter big men who had high hockey IQ and fluidity and was able to use his size in play and get back on the transition and help out.

You guys are 100% correct. Foligno was a great captain in Columbus, and an even better man. He also made a good impression in the city. You are fortunate to have him and he should be the Hawks captain. |

Sorry, Lindstrom.
No way in hell. After I lost two fights in a row, I decided to be more diplomatic. |
